PHDQ: A day in the life of a social media intern
This week at PDHQ, we’re back with another ‘A day in the life’ feature to give a lil insight to the PD baes from the office. We caught up with our social media intern to find out what projects she’s been involved with recently, favourite part of interning and a bit of BTS shenanigans…
Meet Hannah, 22, a Fashion Design and Technology student at Manchester Metropolitan and currently our Social Media Intern at Public Desire.
“I applied as an Intern at PD because I wanted to gain more knowledge of the Fashion Industry and also work for an exciting and growing brand. I was unsure as to what I wanted to do when I graduate and coming from a Fashion Design background I wasn’t 100% sure if I wanted to continue to specialise in design, so I thought that working for PD and having the opportunity to work in different areas of the business would be a perfect way to try and figure out what I wanted.
So far at PD, I have had the opportunity to specialise in Styling. This includes working with Victoria our Photographer and also our models. I get a list of deliveries each week and have to plan an outfit to go with each of the different shoes. The shoes can include anything from OTK boots to heels, we get a range haha! These are then shot for both E-Com and Instagram. Styling for Insta is exciting as you get to play around with different outfits and poses. To then see what you’ve styled being posted on Instagram to over 1 million followers is so cool and feels like a great achievement.
Another opportunity I have gained so far is working on Social. For the past 2 months I have been running the Instagram account for PD, which includes posting 7 times a day, thinking of quirky captions and making sure that everything is scheduled and ready to go! I love the way I can search through blogger pictures and post whatever I want to – brand focused obviously!
Throughout my time so far at PD, I have also been part of Campaign shoots which has included our Halloween shoot and also our Catwalk to Club shoot. It’s so exciting being behind the scenes and having the opportunity to work with different stylists, help dress the models and also see how each of the plans we’ve had come together. The most exciting part is the end product and seeing what everyone has worked towards coming together to look so amazing. Being part of these shoots has definitely helped me to make a decision as to what I want to do when I do graduate.
Fat Friday is the best time when we have Pizzas in the office and cupcakes too. We also take different festivities really seriously, for example, Halloween we all dressed up and had the lovely girls from Shine Shack come in to cover us all in glitter. We played some super fun games too and had mini tasks to complete. So basically, working at PD is super cool and super fun and I’m loving every part of my Internship here.”
