WORKIN’ IT AT PDHQ: Chloe – Footwear buyer
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at PDHQ? Who does what role and what it’s like to work at a fierce online footwear brand? Well look no further bae, allow us to introduce you to Chloe, our seriously sassy footwear buyer.
Can you tell us a little bit about your role and an average day for a footwear buyer?
My time is mostly spent on trend forecasting for the up and coming seasons, developing products, whether they are brand new styles, best seller move ons or designer inspired, working closely with marketing & blogger outreach departments to make sure the correct products are being pushed, and analysing sales and really getting to know the customer and what she wants.
Was fashion buying something you always knew you wanted to do?
Yes it was – I always did design prior to university but I wanted to go more down the business route. I enjoy being involved through the product journey from an idea to seeing the sales come in. It’s forever changing and so fast paced it keeps me interested! I went to MMU and did a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Buying. My first job was buying vintage sunglasses of which we would restore and develop choosing new lenses – it was super interesting and I got to go to Paris and New York regularly which was super fun in my first job! Then I developed ladies’ young fashion which took me to China every 2-3 months which was an amazing experience but very tiring!
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Seeing how daring we can be with styles, how each day is different, working with such a great team who genuinely love the brand and of course dealing with shoes every day is great!
What do you think it takes to be a good buyer?
A good natural eye for knowing what the customer wants before they even do – I don’t think that’s something you can train someone. Commitment and a reactive and quick thinking individual – this industry is so fast paced you can’t get caught up on the things that go wrong, you’re constantly thinking of how to move forward in a positive way.
What exciting things are coming up at Public Desire you’re really looking forward to this year?
Of course developing more and more great styles for the customers. The brand is growing so quickly its really exciting to be here watching the team grow and the plans get bigger. There are really exciting campaign shoots being planned that I can’t wait to see, the site is going to get better and better and the range on ASOS is going to get bigger each season!
