It’s that time of year again angels- summer is officially over (booo!) and students will have travelled back to Uni this weekend. If you’re a fresher and getting ready to move into halls then keep on reading…
In our latest blog post we'll be providing you with our top tips for bossing first year so that you can sit back, relax and get ready to embark on this new, exciting adventure 💖💖
1. Sliders Are ESSENTIAL!
Any previous students will agree that sliders are basically compulsory in first year and will soon become your “popping to the shop” shoe of choice 🤣 Seriously, they’re quick to slip on, super comfy and double up as slippers when entering your communal kitchen often featuring a sticky floor, (EW!).
2. Be a Social Butterfly
This one goes without saying but go to as many social events as you can! This is the best way in the first year to make new besties, 9 times out of 10 your flat mates won’t become your main friendship group (unless you're extremely lucky!) so get out and socialise. Go to that flat party a friend of a friend invited you to, it will be fun. You will meet new friends at the most unexpected times and make memories of a lifetime.
3. Food Food Food
You now live with several strangers who will either become your besties or people you learn to live with. It’s almost guaranteed that one of your flat mates will come home drunk and eat all of your snacks (or maybe you’re that person 😉) It happens, just have a super chill chat with your housemate the next day asking them to replace what they ate or start hiding the goods!
4. University Books Are Expensive
During your welcome week it’s almost unavoidable that your lecturers will try to sell you super expensive books that are “compulsory” for your course. Seriously, some of the books cost over £100 and are not always needed! Usually your campus library will have the books to loan or you can find them second hand, online, for a fraction of the cost. You most likely won’t even use the books much so definitely look at other options before buying.
5. There's Always Time to Partaaaaay!
Okay so freshers week is crazy and so much fun but don’t forget that there will be pleanty of other opportunities to go out, party and make new friends. That means if you’re starting to feel run down and can’t hack that 7th night out in a row, don’t feel like you have to go out because you “need to make friends”. There are student nights almost every night of the week depending on your chosen city and you will meet new people on every night out! FYI freshers flu is a real thing and it's almost guaranteed. Remember to pack pain killers!
6. Go to Class
Okay so yes, lectures and seminars can be easily skipped but don’t do it!! You have a lot more freedom now but your grades could suffer. Once you skip one seminar it could turn into a habit and you will miss out on so much information ultimately making your assignments more difficult. A lot of the core information is given out in Seminars and this is the perfect time to ask questions. Don't stress too much though as your first year results don't count towards your final grade!
7. Aldi is Your Best friend
You're a student now and a weekly shop at Waitrose is not going to help your finances. Save your money for fun things like nights out, trips to the cinema and shopping sprees and not your weekly food shop. Shopping at Aldi or another cheap alternative will save you significant amounts of money and you will get more for your money.
10. ALWAYS Back Up Your Work
This one goes without saying. Always back up your work!! Uni is different from college and you're not getting away with “My laptop crashed and I lost my work” kind of excuses. Use google docs to ensure that your work is always backed up and to avoid a late submission or added stress! It’s not worth it boo…
11. Express Yourself
For some of you this might be the first time you don’t have to wear a uniform to class. Don’t be afraid to express yourself and dress exactly how you want to dress! Uni is not about trying to “fit in” and is a great time to experiment with your personal style. Have fun with it girl, now is the perfect time to be extra AF...
12. Take Advantage of Student Perks
We hate to say it but student perks don’t last forever so be sure to take full advantage of them! Remember to sign up for Unidays and keep an eye out for student exclusive promos. You can shop your full student shoedrobe on our website or App using Unidays for an exclusive 10% off! Go get them essential sliders babe...😍
