The Real Cost of Being a Kardashian

7th June 2019.
by Leah Stone.

Ever wondered how much it really costs to keep up with the Kardashians? And, when we say keep up, we don’t just mean the handbags, the shoes, and the clothes – we’re talking the whole enchilada.

And by that, we mean their priciest accessories, the houses, the cars, and even the kitchen sink (well, Kim’s kitchen sink, to be exact). Do you have a figure in mind?

If not, then don’t worry. As we’re unashamedly obsessed by the entire Kardashian and Jenner fam here at Public Desire HQ, we’ve worked it out for you.

To do this, we priced up Kim, Kylie, Kourtney, and Khloe’s most expensive items (and even looked at little North and Stormi too) and then worked out how long it would take the average person to earn enough money to buy the exact same items.

We’d be lying if we said that the results didn’t make us more than a little green with envy…

The Kardashian accessories

You don’t even need to be a big fan of Kim, Kylie et al to know these girls love their accessories. We’re talking walk-in closets roomier than what many call home. Kim’s Hermès Birkin handbag collection alone is estimated to be worth an eye-watering £150,800.

Based on the average annual UK salary of £29,588, it would take five years and one month to purchase Kim’s Hermès handbag collection. It would be even longer if you actually wanted to eat and pay all your bills (forget about your social life).

Khloe’s not playin

Sister Khloe’s collection is almost as impressive. The handbags shown in an Instagram photo of her baby daughter, True, are said to be worth £126K alone. This would mean four years and three months’ salary for the average Brit looking to match Khloe’s collection.

And if you think that’s a tough pill to swallow, then consider this. Even the £790 personalised bag Kim and Kanye’s five-year-old daughter, North, owns to keep her toys in would cost the average brit 1.4 weeks’ salary.

Dark & Stormi

But that’s nothing compared to the impressive collection owned by Kylie’s baby daughter, Stormi. The stylish one-year-old hit the headlines this year when she was gifted a pint-sized Chanel handbag from rapper DJ Khaled.

She’s also been pictured with a £20,390 Hermès Kelly bag, which was handed down to her from mum Kylie’s walk-in handbag closet. For that, you’d be looking at a full nine months’ wages to keep up with the famous tot.

Moving onto the famous £59,242 earring that Kim lost in the sea during season six of Keeping up with the Kardashians, you’d have to invest a whole two years’ wages if you offered to replace it.

Even Kim’s kitchen sink would take 11 months to save up for on the average UK wage. The bizarre, marble basin-less sink was apparently part designed by Kanye himself, and cost approximately £25K.

The Kardashian houses

When you own accessories worth tens of thousands, naturally you’re going to need somewhere to keep them. Luckily for Kim, Kendall, and Kylie, storage issues are simply not on the radar. 23-year-old Kendall Jenner has invested part of her fortune into a beautiful Spanish-style home in Beverley Hills.

Previously owned by actor Charlie Sheen, the luxury property is valued at £6,714,060. Based on the average UK property price of £228,147, Kendall could buy your house 29 times over if she decides to sell up. But Kendall’s home is decidedly modest when compared to those owned by Kim and Kylie.

In 2018, Kylie and partner Travis Scott reportedly dropped a cool £10,624,013 on their own Beverly Hills mansion, complete with pool, gym, multi-car garage, and a massage room. That figure is equal to no less than 47 average UK homes.

Of course, the sisters’ aforementioned houses are decidedly pokey when compared to the West Hollywood home owned by Kim and Kanye. The decadent all-white residence has provided the backdrop for numerous Instagram moments for the pair, including the time Kanye hired Kenny G to play sax for Kim on Valentine’s Day in their living room.

Estimated at a staggering £47,393,365, the glitzy duo could swap their home for 207 average UK homes. That’s probably more than some small British villages. To add insult to injury, it would take you 1,601 years and nine months to cough up this sum on the average UK salary.

The Kardashian cars

If you want to get from A to B in Los Angeles, you’re going to need something flash if you’re a Jenner or a Kardashian. Kylie has recently begun to expand her car collection, but back in the day when the billionaire make-up mogul was a mere millionaire, she had to make do with a Mercedes G-Wagon as her first car.

Valued at around £120,000, that’s 17 times more expensive than the average £6,908 first car purchased in the UK. Kim’s current ride of choice is a gorgeous black £335,450 Rolls Royce Phantom, which is considered the ultimate status car among the Hollywood A-List.  Given that the average UK car costs just £10,511, Kim’s ride is 33 times more valuable.

But when it comes to wheels, Kourtney is the reigning Kardashian queen. Her Dartz Prombron Red Diamond comes complete with bulletproof glass and a £1,184,834 price-tag. This makes the car 113 times more expensive than the average UK ride, and would take you 40 years to purchase based on the average British wage.

In short, we’ve pretty much come to terms with the fact that it’s virtually impossible to keep up with the Kardashians.
